1.Stolin is the seat of the Karlin-Stolin chassidus; Rabbi Asher of Stolin, son of Rabbi Aharon the Great of Karlin, is associated with the town.
2.HE DIED IN KARLIN, NOT IN STOLIN, and no source found says where he was buried. Reb Asher the first led the chassidus for thirty-five years and was niftar on 26 Tishrei 1826 at Karlin, by Pinsk. This page used to present Stolin as his resting place; it should not have, and it does not now.
3.THERE ARE TWO REB ASHERS OF STOLIN, grandfather and grandson, and sources rarely say which they mean. This listing is about the first — the son of Reb Aharon HaGadol of Karlin. Check which one you are looking for before you travel.
4.STOLIN IS STILL THE SEAT OF THE CHASSIDUS and worth the journey for that. What the town cannot be relied on to hold is his kever. The survey of Stolin records only that houses have been built on the Jewish cemetery.
5.THE LECHOVITCHER IS BURIED IN THIS TOWN. Reb Mordechai of Lechovitch was staying with Reb Asher for a grandchild's wedding when he was niftar, on 13 Shvat 5570 / 1810, and he was buried in Stolin. The exact spot is not confirmed either, but a monument to him was put up here by Reb Yisroel Meir Gabbai. People come to Stolin for Reb Asher and it is the Lechovitcher who is actually here.
