1.Vyzhnytsia is the cradle of the Vizhnitz chassidus; Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager, the Tzemach Tzadik, is its founder.
2.IT IS AT THE NEAR END OF CHERNOHUZY, the village beside the town, and you turn straight off the public road into it. The ground is fenced all round and the gate locks, so entry is by permission and not simply walking in.
3.THE KEY IS HELD IN CHERNOHUZY. The survey records the keyholder as Nesteryuk Hryhoriy Hryhorovych, on Hlediv street in the village. That is the record as it stands and it may have changed hands; ask in the village if it does not answer.
4.THE OHEL IS ON THIS GROUND, and the ground is in good order — between five hundred and five thousand stones, all of them still where they were set and under a quarter down, running from 1863 onward.
5.IT IS LAID OUT IN SECTIONS: men, women, unmarried women, rabbonim, kohanim and children each have their own. Head for the rabbonim rather than walking the rows. Some of the stones carry traces of paint, some have portraits, and some have iron railings round them — that is the local style.
6.THE OLD CEMETERY IS A PARK NOW. The seventeenth-century ground is a playground and sports field with no stones visible, no fence and no gate. It is not where the Tzemach Tzaddik lies and it is not what you have come for.
