אוהל בית הלברשטאם — כרזאנוב

Chrzanów — Halberstam Ohel in the New Jewish Cemetery

New Jewish cemetery, ul. Borowcowa, Chrzanów, Chrzanów County, Lesser Poland Voivodeship, Poland

  • Chrzanów has an old and a new Jewish cemetery, and the Halberstam ohel is in the NEW one on ul. Borowcowa — directions that say only "the Jewish cemetery" will send you to the wrong place.
  • The ohel stands at the southern end of the grounds and is well maintained; it is a family ohel of the Chrzanów Halberstam line, so others of the family rest there alongside Reb Dovid.
  • Unlike many cemeteries on this route a substantial number of matzevos survive here, so the grounds read as a real cemetery rather than an empty field.
  • Make sure you are at the right Reb Dovid Halberstam — this is the son of the Divrei Chaim of Sanz who died in 1894, not the later Sanz-Zhmigrod Reb Dovid buried in the United States — and confirm the ohel with someone local before you daven.
  • SURVEYED COORDINATES. The map point on this listing is the cemetery itself, measured on the ground by the ESJF survey — not a town centre. Where a kever is inside an ohel it will still need finding once you are through the gate, but the gate is now something you can navigate to.
