Mikulov Old Jewish Cemetery — Rabbis' Hill

  • Mikulov (Nikolsburg), in South Moravia near the Austrian border, was for centuries the seat of the Chief Rabbi of Moravia. The old cemetery covers ~2 ha with ~4,000 stones (oldest legible 1605).
  • The most important section is the Rabbis' Hill (Rabínský vršek), resting place of renowned Moravian chief rabbis. A restored ceremonial hall stands at the entrance.
  • Nearest airports: Brno (~50 km) and Vienna (~80 km); Bratislava ~90 km. Kosher food, lodging, minyan and mikvah are best arranged in Vienna, Brno or Bratislava.
