Radomsko — Ohel of the Tiferes Shlomo
Family ohel of the Radomsker rebbes, in the northern part of the Jewish cemetery, ulica Przedborska 196, Radomsko, Łódź Voivodeship, Poland
- THE OHEL IS IN THE NORTHERN PART OF THE GROUND, at ulica Przedborska 196. It is the family ohel of the Radomsker rebbes — the Tiferes Shlomo and several of his descendants after him — not a single grave, so ask for the Rabinowicz ohel rather than for one stone.
- THERE HAS BEEN A PILGRIMAGE CENTRE AT THE CEMETERY SINCE 2017, kept for the people who come to this ohel. That is unusual in Poland and it means the visit does not have to be arranged from scratch.
- IT IS A LARGE CEMETERY BY POLISH STANDARDS — opened in 1816, with something like two thousand seven hundred matzevos still standing and the oldest readable one from 1831. Allow more time than a village ground would need.
- THIS GROUND IS ALSO A KILLING SITE. When the Germans liquidated the Radomsko ghetto in January 1943 they shot about fifteen hundred people in this cemetery. Behave in it accordingly.
- SURVEYED COORDINATES. The map point on this listing is the cemetery itself, measured on the ground by the ESJF survey — not a town centre. Where a kever is inside an ohel it will still need finding once you are through the gate, but the gate is now something you can navigate to.
